Anais Nin

The possession of knowledge does not kill the sense of wonder and mystery. There is always more mystery – Anais Nin

This is one of the quotes by Anais Nin (I haven’t read her works), which I see/read almost regularly (a government hoarding in my area features this quote). On 27th March 2019, there was a request by some of the members to discuss combinations for multiple marriage’s, I thought it is better to write an article that to discuss something, I told some formula’s but then people started requesting about elaborating them, hence I thought better to write an article. My first choice was Zsa Zsa Gabor but owing to unauthenticity of her time (and I don’t want to rectify that, as of now) the chart of Anais Nin was my second choice. Astrodatabank has her details and it is termed as Accurate as well, hence I am taking her details and bio from there.

Below is her chart, calculated on Chandra Hari Ayanamsa. Ashtottari Dasa is applicable in her chart

Now, I am taking some portions from her bio and explaining it astrologically, presenting it as a case study. But before we go to that portion let me hint at the basic thing for which I chose to take this chart, she married Ian Hugh in 1920 (Jupiter-Rahu) and Hugo in 1923 (Jupiter-Venus), in 1955 (Venus-Mars/Mercury) she also married Rupert Pole but bigamously and in 1933 (Jupiter-Saturn) she had sex with her father !!

Now some very very basic rules first (but most advanced ones as well. Why I call them basic is because they are easy to remember and advance because they should not be applied blindly and rather an astrologer must use his mind and intelligently very carefully), remember three things, both exalted and debilitated planets can give more than one marriage, For an exalted planet multiple marriages are happy, both partners are separated and then they marry someone else, debilitated planets comes with a lot of chaos, cries and bad karmas and last but not the least Upagraha’s play a role, I always say, when it is an abnormality, then it is Upagraha that show’s it, if it is something very bizarre, then it is Aprakash Graha, read my article on Upagraha’s and Aprakash Graha’s here

She was a French author who authored 60 diaries in her 74 years about herself, working on perfecting her self-absorption and sex-life, introspective from youth, she began her diaries at 15. Her literary career can be seen using Mercury and Saturn in 5th house of Rashi and in Navansa both of them are together where Saturn with his 3rd aspect influences the 5th lord Venus  taking the effects of Mercury with him on the 5th lord, in Rasi Saturn is the 5th lord and in Navansa Venus is aspected by Jupiter but from 12th house. No direct influence of Jupiter in Rashi and influence of Jupiter on 5th lord in Navansa but from 12th house gave his effects which can be seen in this comment in her bio (Nin fancied herself an artist, when, in fact, she was a minor writer and very, very sensitive bore), here we should also remember that Mercury and Venus also makes one writer but of secondary level. She was very active which is very evident from the fact that Mercury is Lagnesha as well. Her writings started in Jupiter-Jupiter itself (notice the role of Navansa), her internal traits are evident from Navansa lagna which is directly and indirectly influenced by Saturn (introspective), Mars (perfecting her self), Mercury and Venus (sex-life). We should see physical characteristics from Rasi Lagna and mental/internal characteristics from Navansa Lagna (refer Varahamihira)

Between Sun, Moon and Lagna, Sun is the strongest, 10th lord from Sun is Mars who is debilitated in Cancer Navansa, Moon the lord of cancer is exalted in 5th house of Navansa which indicates her profession related to writing, publishing, thinking etc. The traits of 5th house and exalted Moon in the same will be evident from other references to her biography, given below
She was among the first to write of personal explorations about sex, self and psychoanalysis. Nin’s emphasis on the intimate, personal and instinctual were feminine traits she believed could be used in the reconstruction of a more sensitive world. Her first book published when she was 27, was about D. H. Lawrence with whom she agreed that lies were essential because most people could not stomach the naked truth. She would brag about lying “bravely, ironically, dually, triply”. Nin clung obsessively to the book that nourished her living; her diary, her “one true friend”. She kept both real and false diaries, editing and rewriting them through her life in a never-ending recreation of self. Some say her writings reveals a portrait of monstrous egotism and selfishness, horrifying in its callous indifference. She aborted her six-month-old, stillborn daughter and fictionalized the event in “under a glass bell”. Nin worked as a fashion model and artist as well (which is again indicated by Moon in 5th very clearly).

Read the above quotations from her biography at astrodatabank and see if it resonates with Moon in 5th house, this is the importance and value of Navansa, nothing to surprise when we know that ancient astrologers who never saw any charts always compulsorily wrote Navansa along with Rashi chakra.

She nonetheless became an icon for the feminist movement in the 1970s, presenting herself as successfully defied the conventions of women’s traditional role. Fame is seen from the 1st house and 10th house, both houses are owned by same planet Mercury, who is with Saturn in own house, taking support from him (friend can support) but this comes with a condition which tells us that person will only get fame when it is voice of the suppressed and those who are suffering silently (Saturn).

Her dad was a philandering Spanish composer, who abandoned the family when she was 11 but continued to be overshadowing through her life. Now we stumble upon a very important point, when Karaka becomes a lord, according to classical canons of astrology (Parashara) Venusian (strong) relationship with Saturn in Navansa indicates lesbian relationships whereas with Mars it indicates philanderer. I will add something here, we cannot really distinguish between Saturn and Mars in this case, but however, it indicates a sexual abnormality. The word strong written above have a strong meaning, classical combination is “Venus in sign of Saturn aspected by Mars indicates a womanizer”, I will modify this a bit by changing it to “any of Saturn or Mars having connection with both Venus as well as dispositor of Venus indicates a womanizer or lesbian/gay based on other combinations in the horoscope”. If the above condition of dispositor doesn’t matches then the aforesaid extra-marital/same-sex relationship will be only before or after marriage (or divorce) but in other situations (when the person is married) it won’t become as infidelity.
Here we see a situation where Mercury being dispositor of Venus is in 4th house with debilitated Saturn (having conjunction/connection) and this Saturn aspect Venus back (making it a permanent combination). Now, this Venus is 9th lord and 2nd lord indicates the same traits of Venus will be present in father as well as one of the family members. (Anything in a horoscope (composite) is a Yoga which is always multifaceted which is to be decoded by an expert astrologer (this is what software’s can never do, an example of the same can be seen in the first part where we were analysing her writing/diary prospects (mind it how it indicated writing as well as her being a secondary writer and then how does it also indicated her being a feminist figure whose fame must have been build through her writings/books)).
He abandoned his family is seen by a conjunction of Saturn and Sun in 9th house of D12, a combination of tension. There is also an exchange between 9th and 5th house of D12 as well as D12 Lagna and Rashi Lagna is the same (Virgo) which indicates her father being an overshadowing figure through her life. The event happened in the last part of Saturn Dasa in Ashtottari, with right dasa everything matches, In Vimshottari it will be Venus-Mars which in no-way matches (makes a link) between planetary combination and Dasa. (More about the effect of Saturn dasa later, remember she had sexual relations with her father in Jupiter-Saturn).

When her dad deserted the family, her mom took the three kids to New York, her Lagna is having Mars who is 3rd and 8th lord in Lagna, indicating this event, in Navansa Mars aspects lagna. Here, take note of a thing, I am taking lordships from D1 in matters related to the physical body (here physically residence changing to another country) whereas as matters related to sexuality, tendencies, inner nature etc. I am taking lordships from D9 and using them interchangeably in both D1 and D9 (and in other divisional charts as well, according to the question in hand).

She both studied and practised psychoanalysis as well, refer to my last article here, and see my comments about how to find education (in the last part of the article). Her 10th house is influenced by Moon and Jupiter, between them Moon is stronger having acquired directional strength (Digbala), In Chaturvimsamsa we find Mars as 10th lord in 6th house with Venus and Jupiter, both of them are under lordship of Mitra (deity), Mitra means friend and it indicates educational related to these fields, a psychologist is your friend (friend with one of the best qualities), he listens to you, analyses it and then advises you, isn’t it? This is how I decide education which also works beautifully, I will give its example in another article (case study oriented).

In 1933, after a separation of nearly 20 years, she met and seduced her own father who was then 54. It was Jupiter-Saturn, now come to the Navansa (read the earlier explanation about her father being philanderer), here we find Saturn making the combination for being a womanizer (here having extramarital/illicit relationships with men because of this being a female horoscope), but what about Jupiter, Jupiter is in 12th house aspecting this Venus who is with Sun who in-turn is 8th lord (read my brief of her sexual/marital life in starting of this article below image of her chart) we find this Jupiter (who takes the influence of Sun, In dasa especially in Nakshatra Dasa’s, always remember this rule, planets take effect of the planet they conjoin and give it in their dasa), Jupiter (giving effect of Sun) gave her a marriage and break in the marriage and then another marriage being the lord of 12th house and 3rd house (malefic, Akaraka), but in the case of her bigamous relationship Jupiter was absent (It happened in Venus dasa) this is because of Sun being 8th lord which inidcates brakes in marriage (lord of 6th, 8th and 12th and in some cases lord of 2nd, 3rd and 11th indicate break in marriage, from Lagna when native breaks marriage and from 7th house when his/her spouse breaks marriage), but what about her sexual relationships with father which we are discussing here, I won’t tell about it clearly, but will give a hint, In Jaimini Sutras Chapter 1, subdivsion 2 (which deals about Swamsa) there is a Shloka रविणा स्वकुले गुप्ता च this is the key, this is the hint.
(Note – it is just a hint, don’t apply the rule blindly or take it prima facie, it will land you in a problem, apply it intelligently, it works, I have personally tested it).

More hints – Venus is in Saturn’s sign in D12 aspected by Mars and then this Venus is in an exchange with Saturn who is in 9th house with Karaka of father Sun, Venus himself is 9th lord of D12 and 9th lord from Karaka Sun is Saturn which is an exchange with Venus who is under Martian aspect while residing in Saturnian sign.

Quixotic in her choice of lovers, Nin was pragmatic when it came to husbands, both husbands were gullible, compliant, steadfast men who gave unstinting support. In 1923 she married a banker, Hugh Guiler, he paid for the publication of many of his books and made possible the glamorous, art-infested life she led. He turned a blind eye to her love affairs with Henery Miller and her psychoanalysts. In 1934 she became pregnant, the first of several subsequent aborted pregnancies, During the period of conception (of the child which she aborted (six-months-old, referred earlier)) she was intimate with Hugh Guiler, her father and Henry Miller, In 1955, she married Rupert Pole bigamously for she had not divorced Hugh Guiler.

Here comes the dasa in its truest colours, we saw her Jupiter dasa starting with separation with father and her moving to new york with her mother and siblings, which is seen from Jupiter being 4th lord of home (for a child, her mother’s home) being shattered due to Jupiter being in 6th house. 6th house is named as Kshata which means broken as well, and later on, this Jupiter kept broking her own home (marriages) as well, this same Jupiter is 7th lord in 6th house indication once again separation (I am making the house I am discussing (under question) as Lagna, but for 4th house I treated 6th house as 6th from Lagna and not 3rd from 4th for the reason because Mother is from birth, marriage is a relationship after birth (hint))). 7th lord in 6th house which is 12th from 7th indicates separation (rippha) here divorces for marriage. Pandit Gopesh Kumar Ojha writes in The Astrological Magazine that he takes the 6th house for 2nd marriage which I also support by an alternative interpretation of the word सपत्नीमातरं told as a signification of 6th house in Brihat Parashara Hora.

In Navansa (the main chart for marriage), Jupiter is 3rd and 12th lord in 12th house with 8th lord Sun aspecting and aspected by 5th and 10th lord Venus making and contributing in the classical yoga for being a philanderer and then transmitting it to the 9th house making father of the same character (these two things are already explained in previous paragraphs). Here First we will see why she constantly kept aborting her children, This was due to Jupiter with Mandi in Saptamsa Lagna (remember my comment about this in my video on “Karaka” available at youtube), who is in Paap Kartari but in his own Rashi, own Rashi indicated that she had conception and also chances of having a child but malefic influence made her decide that she won’t have a children (the dirty face of feminism movement that was in western countries and at some places it still is),  remember for a female planet, planets in 2-12 to her can only be supportive (refer Sunapha, Anapha and Durudhara Yoga in Saravali) but for male planet, nature of planets in 2-12 matters a lot (refer to effects of Veshi, Voshi and Ubhayachari Yoga), the 5th house in D7 is having Kala (upagraha). Abortion (mentioned here about six-month-old happened in 1934 (Jupiter ended July 1934 and Rahu started afterwards) It has to be Jupiter, because research, a technique if it can’t repeat itself through charts and replicate itself through dasa’s is of no use and a very weak research/technique).

Remember my comments about exalted and debilitated planets giving marriage (debilitated Mars in 7th house, exalted 7th lord Moon in 5th house and Lagna is aspected by Saturn who again is debilitated and is Lagna lord himself, (Navamsa – marriage), this is here, then there is a very classic combination of having extra-marital affairs (infidelity in marriage).

Now, I will explain it using my Dasa principles (that I teach in Dasa Bheda course), see here Jupiter is lord of two bad houses so he is Akaraka which should give bad effects, first comes his antardasa (1915-1919) in which he should be doing nothing (we find no significant event), then comes Rahu (1919-1921) who is in 8th house, Rahu doesn’t own any house hence it will work according to rules of Conjunction-Aspect-Dispositor, Rahu is aspected by Jupiter, making his nature like Jupiter, now the rule of Sadharmi applies and Jupiter should give his results. Does Jupiter indicates marriage (Rule is Digbala-Sthanabala-Drishtibala-Sambandhala, to be applied in this order), Yes! So he gives marriage with his Sadharmi Rahu (Sadharmi means of same nature, two planets of same nature work together are the principle, in other cases, nothing will work and dasa won’t give big/life-changing events), but only because he himself will break it (dual role of Yoga’s, not only humans but planets are also multi-faceted). Rahu is followed by Venus and in Jupiter-Venus we find her marrying again (Venus is Sadharmi, Yes! not by lordship, but by placement), Venus is a depositor of exalted Moon (this was her first extra marriage, here second). In 1933 she had a sexual relationship with her father (discussed earlier) Yes, Sun is also Sadharmi. Analyse remaining planets in the antardasa span and check it with her bio at Wikipedia, at astrodatabank I don’t find any relationship mentioned in this period hence leaving a detailed explanation for the sake of space. Her next marriage which is bigamous comes in Venus-Mars, Mars is the debilitated planet in 7th of Navansa indicating more than one marriage and Venus is the classic combination. See, this is a research, a technique which first tells you what will happen accurately and then gives you right link in dasa’s so that you can yourself decide/see if the event is caused by this planet or not.

One hint again – she had affair with an astrologer as well named Rene Allendy, this is due to Jupiter’s aspect on this classic Venusian combination. This is one more facet of the multidimensional effect of planets, why I name it as a hint because this is a hint on how you will find, for example, say a relationship with each and every subsequent husband/affair.

In 1966 first of his four diaries were published, this was in Venus dasa and Rahu Antara, go back and see where I started the analysis of her chart and discussed her being a secondary level of a writer (multiple dimensions of everything). But why Rahu? he takes the influence/results of Jupiter as explained in the penultimate paragraph from this one (where I discussed dasa as time-table in a concise manner).

She died at the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital on 14th January 1977,  at 11:55 PM. Her death certificate cited as causes cardiorespiratory arrest, severe malnutrition and widespread metastatic carcinoma “Cancer began in the vagina”. Using Jaimini Principles we find that from Lagna and Hora Lagna she is having a long life, from Lagnesha and Ashtamesha she is having a long life once again and using the combination of Moon and Lagna she is having a short life. So it will be Long-Long-Short. I will take the maximum span of life as 108 years (refer Navansa dasa of Jaimini and modern living conditions). 108 divided by 3 gives an answer of 36, adding 36+36=72, so up-to 72nd year her middle life completed and she entered into long life section, I interpret this Long Long Short and death in earlier part of her Long life span which actually happened. This is the method I use and also found it works but there are many hidden facets of the technique which I will not discuss here or anywhere else, but always remember there is no definite way to find longevity and as Prashna Marga says “If someone does virtuous Karma then his longevity will increase and if someone commits sins then his longevity will decrease”. It was Moon-Mercury dasa, but I won’t explain that.

With this much details about her death, we can also make her death horoscope and analyse that to see her Karma, but I am leaving it for another article. Death circumstances can be seen using the 3rd house in Rashi (Mars aspect – Cancer), Drekkana (Saturn, Jupiter and Mercury aspect – Malnutrition and the sign Aquarius which indicates metastatic carcinoma) and Navamsa (Rahu – Cancer) (8th house of drekkana plays a very important role in death condition, causes and circumstances. See in Drekkana mercury aspects 8th house and in his Antardasa she died, but I am not using traditional drekkana here).

let me end this article with another quote from Anais Nin

Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.
