Introduction
Spiritual sciences and Hindu code of conduct enunciate four pillars of Human life, Dharma – Artha – Kama and Moksha. Mapped into four Kendra’s of a horoscope. These are four basic motivations behind each and every work that any person undertakes.
Today our topic of discussion is Artha [Money] Its importance is well known. It is a basic building block of human society. We all lack one thing or another in our lives. To create a balance, what we do is tend to give away things that are more than sufficient in our lives and try to possess things we need but are not available to us.
In ancient times it was done through the barter system. Where one person having plenty of rice used to replace it with one having plenty of pulses and they both lived peacefully having their necessities fulfilled. With time and the growth of civilization, Money came as a replacement. Sometimes it was difficult to find a person having that thing in plenty amount that we need. With colonization, people living in the same area were having the same things in plenty amount and they also lacked same things in their life.
Then was discovered money, an object used for sale and purchase. With money, we had a value of things. Now people were not involved in the barter system but were exchanging things with money which gave them mobility and also saved them from other problems like transportation problems. Money is easy to carry rather than 10 kilos of Grains.
This basic thing needs to be kept in mind before understanding the Hora chart which indicates “Sampad-aadikam” The word “Sampad” Means Money, Wealth, Assets, Treasures, Riches and luxury and “Aadikam” means etc. By the use of word होरायां संपदादिकं Parashara hints to us that the D2 chart also known as Hora Chakra, Indicates wealth assets and everything that is needed for sustenance of human beings in their lives and fulfilment of other Purushartha [Dharma-Kama-Moksha].
Learners of astrology will accept that this is one of the most difficult charts when it comes to interpretation, all planets are mapped only into two signs Cancer and Leo. It is very simple to calculate, but most difficult to read, to the extent that some people even ignore this divisional chart. But remember that it is one of the most important divisional charts because it comes in all four divisions known as Shadvarga-Saptavarga-Dashvarga and Sodashvarga. It is important that is also implied by the thing it indicates. Without money and way of sustenance, how can we even imagine living on this planet earth?
It is my firm belief that each and every word which sounds the same is connected in Vedic Astrology, be it Hora Chakra and Hora Lagna or some other thing. Here in this article I am going to present a novel method of interpretation of Hora chakra and will illustrate how can one predict using Cancer-Leo Hora. I am well aware that with different interpretations of the word प्रवृत्तिद्वयम् Different kinds of Hora charts are being made, However, for the current article, we will limit ourselves to Cancer-Leo Hora only.
However, Here I must reveal to authors that I have my own method of calculation of divisional charts, never revealed till now and I do use that methodology in chart interpretation.
Calculation of Hora Chakra, Hora Lagna and Hora.
Hora Chakra [D2] Chart
बृहतपराशरहोराशास्त्र – षोडशवर्गाअध्यायः – श्लोक -५-६
तत्क्षेत्रं तस्य खेटस्य रशेर्यो यस्य नायकः
Planets are lord of their Rashi, In Rashi Chakra.
सूर्येन्द्वेविर्षमे राषौः समे तद्विपरीतकम
Sun is lord of Odd signs and in even signs, it is reversed.
पितरश्चन्द्रहोरेशा देवाः सूर्यस्य कीर्तिताः
Pitri’s are the lord of Chandra hora and God’s [Deva] are fame givers of Sun hora [Money gives fame, clear indication]
राशेरअर्ध भवेधहोरा ताश्चतुविर्शतिः स्मृता
Half of a Rashi is a hora, and This way there are twenty-four horas in twelve sings, remember this.
मेषादि तासां होराणां प्रवृत्तिद्वयम भवेत
This was in Aries etc [signs] Hora’s repeat twice.
Here, sage clearly instructs us that. Planets own their own signs in Rashi chakra, but in Hora Chakra [D2] Sun lords odd signs and Moon lords reverse [Even signs], God’s are lords of Sun Hora and Pitri’s are lords of Moon Hora. Half of a Rashi [15 Degree] Is a hora and there are in total 24 Horas in 12 signs. This way Aries and other signs repeat twice. A careful reading and understanding of these verses open up the door for real Hora chart calculations [instructed by sage Parashara himself], this Hora chart being described here is known as “pravritti-dwaya Hora”. However, in this article, we will use the method of calculating Hora chart given by commentators of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra.
Commentators of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra instructs us that there are two Horas in a sign. In odd signs planets between 0-15 degree falls in Sun Hora [They interpret it as being in Leo] and planets in 15-30 degrees fall in Moon Hora [They interpret it as being in Cancer]. Planets in even signs between 0-15 degrees fall in Moon Hora [Cancer] and planets between 15-30 degrees in even signs fall in Sun Hora [Leo]

Predictive Hints – There are two groups of planets in Astrology, Sun Group which consist of Sun, Moon, Mars and Jupiter and Saturn Group which consists of Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. They can also be said as a group of God’s [Sun’s group] and Group of Pitri’s [Saturn’s group] as Pitri’s are our forefathers so if Saturn, the aged planet in Vedic Astrology. Planets in Sun hora under influence of planets of Sun’s group become money givers and Planets in Moon’s hora under influence of planets of Moon’s group become money givers.
Hora Lagna
बृहतपराशरहोराशास्त्र – ज्ञानअध्यायः – श्लोक ४-५
तथा सार्धद्विघटिकामितादकोर्दयाद द्विज!
प्रयाति लग्नं तन्नाम होरलग्नं प्रचक्षते!!
इष्टघटयादिकं द्विघ्न पन्चाप्तं भादिकं यत्!
योज्यमौदयिके भानौ होरलग्नं स्फुटं हि तत!!
I am not going into its translation for the sake of simplicity and not confusing the readers. The translation given by Pandit Sitaram Jha is after Sunrise 2.30 ghati makes one Hora Lagna. Hence multiply Ghatyadi Ishtakaalam to 2 and divide it by 5 and add the remainder to Sun’s longitude it gives Hora Lagna.
One Ghati = 24 Minutes hence 2.50 Ghati means 24×2.50=60.00 Minutes. Hence divide the time of birth from sunrise by 60 minutes [to divide this convert time from sunrise in minutes] and add the quotient into longitude of Sun, This will give Hora Lagna.
Example native-born at 09.23 AM, Sunrise at 06.35 AM. The time difference is 2 Hours 48 Minutes. Convert hours into Minutes, Hence 2×60=120 minutes + 48 minutes = 168 minutes. Divide this by 60 which will give 2.8. Add this to the longitude of the Sun, take this as 2 signs and 8 degrees. As it is a mathematical method no sign will have more than 2.9 as it will make it 3.0. So divide a sign into 9 equal parts. 30/9=3.33 which means one point means 3.33 degrees is passed. Hence here suppose Sun is in Sagittarius 24 degrees. Hence adding two signs means Sagittarius+1= Capricorn, Capricorn +1 = Aquarius. Now 8th degree means 7 degrees have already been passed. So multiply 7 by 3.33 = 7×3.33=23.21 degree. Add this to the longitude of the Sun, But see here Sun is in 24 degrees. Hence, 24+23=47 [6 degrees will complete a sign] Hence, add 1 to Aquarius [Resultant sign, Aquarius+1=Pisces] and subtract 6 from 23 which means 17. Hence Hora lagna will be at 17 degrees of Pisces. It is what is given by Jagannath Hora for this chart. Hence this illustrative method of calculating Hora Lagna can be safely used.
Readers must appreciate here that only I have given a new and simplified method of calculating Hora Lagna for learners and researchers, rest of all other websites [found after google search] gives formula and then tells us to add this in ghati and vighati but none illustrates this as I did here. What is the use of writing an article when the reader can’t calculate things by himself?
Predictive Hint – Make this Hora Lagna as Lagna in hora chart as well as covert this Hora Lagna into Cancer-Leo hora this will indicate our main flow of wealth, as we will see in example charts.

Sunday starts with Sun’s Hora [Suppose for the sake of understanding], Now see the table given below. In one day there are 2 Hora’s because one Hora is for one hour, As seen above one hora equals to 60 minutes which makes one Hour. See table now.

Here, looking carefully one notices that in one day 24 Hora’s are finished and the next 25th Hora comes as Hora at sunrise next day which constitutes the day of the planet and Saturday’s last hora is Mars after which comes Sun which makes next day like Sunday.
Predictive Hint – Here I propose to make a new revelation, Take the degree of Sun and distribute hora incomplete chart, 15 degrees = 1 Hora like this. Make a bhava chakra taking Sun as starting point and this will ease your work.

Example 1: Bill Gates [28-Oct-1955; 09:10 PM; Seattle-Washington-USA]
Money potential – In Cancer there are Moon, Venus and Saturn posited Venus and Saturn are planets from Saturn’s clan and they being in Cancer enhances money potential. This is Hora lagna in his chart too which indicates him as being rich.
Mathematical Hora Lagna is at 20 Degree Sagittarius from where Cancer falls in 8th house this made him born in a normal family. However 20 degrees of Sagittarius will also fall in Cancer Hora with Venus and Saturn in each other association, this made him rich.
Planets in Hora of Planets [Now referred to as Vara Hora]. Sun is at 11 degrees. Hence 11+15=26 Hora one of a sign and 26+11=11 2nd hora of a sign. See table

All planets are in the Hora of Venus, Saturn, Mercury-Mars and Moon. Lagna is also in Moon Hora. We see their power in Hora Chakra. Lagna is in Moon hora, Moon is in own sign in Hora with mathematical Hora lagna. Hence this indicates the potential of being rich. Venus and Saturn being Asura planets are in Cancer [Ruled by Pitri’s] indicates riches, Mars in Sun hora being the planet of Sun’s clan indicates money only Mercury is ill-placed. Hence money-making potential in this chart is 60% [Total planets 9 +1 Lagna, Total 10=100%, 4 Planets in Mercury hora, Hence 60%]
Now see how dasha operated. By 1991 he was worth some 4.4 billion dollars. Lagna is having Taurus Navansha which makes Dwadashottari Dasha applicable. In 1986 when his company went public it was Rahu-Saturn. Rahu is in Moon’s Hora in Vara Hora Chakra but Saturn is in Mercury’s Hora. However, look at Saturn he himself indicates riches. However, due to him being in Mercury’s Vara Hora he launched his business but was not an instant millionaire. He achieved this state in 1991 when it was Rahu-Sun/Jupiter. Sun being in Venusian Vara Hora and Jupiter being in Martian Vara Hora both indicated good financial times. Venus is also in Mercurian hora but thanks to the special applicability of Dwadashottari Dasha [In this dasha scheme Venus dasha doesn’t feature]. Mars, Mercury and Saturn are left in Mercurian Vara Hora, after his rise in 1991 [Which can be timed using D10] He saw Mercury Dasha between 1994 to 1996. But this time he was going well as Mahadasha lord Rahu is favourable. After that came Mars and Now Saturn both planets in Mercurian Vara Hora but his money is increasing, we can have an exception for Saturn as he himself is well placed in Hora chakra but what about Mars. See his chart Mars is with Jupiter lord of Mathematical Hora Lagna and Saturn is well placed by being in Cancer [Such a beautiful chart indicates riches]
Example 2: Steve Jobs [24 Feb 1955; 07:15 PM; San Francisco – California – USA]
Money Potential – Mathematical Hora Lagna is in 23 degrees Aquarius again maps to Cancer, In Cancer, there is Moon, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. Once again we see Moon in his own house and Venus and Saturn complimenting each other for making finances but Jupiter here is the problem [Really] No he is a friend of Saturn and Moon but the enemy of Venus hence he will create some problems but not disturbances. Cancer is the 6th sign from Aquarius which again indicates birth in a humble background.

Jupiter, Sun, Venus, Moon and Mars. All planets are well placed, especially Jupiter which is exalted, Moon in its own house. But here Sun and Mars don’t have the company of mathematical Hora lord Saturn Hence they are weak significators of wealth. They will maintain wealth but won’t help in its increase.
Dwisaptati Sama Dasha is applicable, He made his first circuit born in 1976 and within 1979 his company was worth 10 million dollars. It was Mars dasha and Jupiter and Venus antardasha. See Jupiter who is exalted in Cancer with mathematical hora lagna and Venus who is in cancer [Planet of Saturn’s clan in Cancer hora]. What about Mars let me give you a secret here, Mars in D1 is in Aries and in D2 it is in Leo, the 5th house which indicates new initiatives.
In one year his company was worth 100 million dollars, it was Saturn antardasha, we have seen Saturn being with Jupiter [exalted], Moon [Own Rashi] and mathematical Hora lagna. Now see Saturn in the birth chart is in Libra and in Hora, he is in cancer, This throws him in the 10th sign from himself, good for professional advancement. Saturn is under Vara Hora of Moon [Himself well placed]
left job in 1985, It was Mercury mahadasha who in D1 is in Capricorn and D2 in Leo [6-8] hard times are there but due to Lagna and Mathematical Hora lagna both being mapped to Cancer in Hora Chakra where lagna degree is also mapped along with exalted Jupiter and Moon of own house his riches was permanent and was not to be faded by these dashas. So his unemployment was only for one year and in 1986 he co-founded NeXt in an attempt to do for the hardware industry what he had down for software which again gave him riches.
Before we go to bankrupt charts here is a chart of my best friend, he made lots of money till now, we will judge can he make it big.

Mathematical Hora lagna is in 18 Cancer which pushes it into Leo Hora. Leo hora is having Mars, Mercury, Rahu and Ketu. Between them, Mars is in friends’ sign [Sun clan and Sun hora]. Rahu being a male planet is in male Hora. Problematic is Ketu and Mercury. But Hora Lagna and Hora Chakra Lagna match which makes him a rich person for this lifetime. Still, Mathematical hora lagna in D2 and Rashi chakra is in 2-12, He is born in normal background. The problem with Leo is no planet is exalted there [Not much riches] Sun is not in Leo [Not too much money]

Most planets in 3-11 [Hardship] 6-8 [Denial and Struggle] but planets are also in [5-9] some fortune element is there too.
Ashottari Dasha is applicable, He started his corporation on 25th December 2015 [Sun-Mars-Sun]. Sun is with Moon who is in their own sign as well as lord of mathematical hora lagna in Rashi chakra. He is in 1-1 displacement indicates his work for himself. Mars is well placed as seen above, Sun is in Vara Hora of Jupiter [Exalted] and Mars in Vara Hora of Sun [Not well placed hence he did hard work]
He purchased a vehicle [Honda City of his own money, Notice his age] on 13 August 2016, Sun-Mercury: We have seen Sun but Mercury is not well placed as shown above, but in Vara Hora of Mars he indicates good time if not best time. It was a second-hand vehicle that he purchased.
He purchased a two-wheeler worth 1.5 lacks on 26 April 2016: Sun-Mercury, Same dasha and Antar Dasha read above-given an explanation.
He purchased an iPhone on 19 May 2016 [Sun-Mercury] Same dasha and antardasha, see he is not making big purchases in this time frame.
Purchases i20 worth 9 lacks from his own earnings on 9 March 2017: Sun-Saturn-Rahu, Now sees antardasha changed from Mercury to Saturn which gave him better achievements due to Saturn being in Moon Hora, Sun, as we have seen, is with Moon and is not displaced, however, Saturn is displaced by 6-8, Saturn comes under Moon’s vara hora [well placed] and Sun under Jupiter’s Vara Hora again well placed.
He soon left this vehicle, gifted it to his parents and purchased a new Honda City worth 12 lacks on 29 June 2017: Sun-Saturn continues, However, what is signified by 6–8 displacement of Saturn, 6th house is for debts and 8th house is for EMI’s.
Example 3: Stanley Kirk Burrell [30 March 1962, 11:59, Oakland-California]
Mathematical Hora lagna falls in 14 degrees Virgo. Which makes it fall in cancer a 3-11 relationship which implies he is born in a normal background [as compared to his financial position in end]. Unlike the three charts seen before where Hora division of mathematical Hora lagna was falling in Lagna of Hora Chakra with an exalted or own house planet here Hora division of mathematical Hora lagna also falls in lagna but with debilitated Mars, enough to give a condition of his financial life. Along with debilitated Mars is Moon [Own house] Money will be there and Mercury [Business]

Planets are in Vara hora of Venus, Mars, Mercury and Sun. Between them Sun is in their own house, Mars is debilitated, Mercury is in Cancer Hora [Saturn clan – Cancer Hora] but Venus is badly placed in Leo Hora.
Satabdika Dasha is applicable as lagna is Vargottama, He set multi-record deal in 1989, by 1994 he was negotiating for a three-album deal for 25 Million Dollars – It was Jupiter Dasha, In Vara hora of Venus [Not to be proved good as Venus himself is in Leo Hora] but Jupiter is 7-7 displaced from his position in the birth chart. So, it gave him a chance. Jupiter himself has well placed in friends Hora. Everything was working fine until Mars antardasha came from 1992 to 1996 which left him bankrupt in 1996 owing 13.7 million dollars.
In 1998 in Jupiter-Saturn he was living modestly. Here we can see how a badly placed planet in D2 gave him bankruptcy.
Concluding Remarks
As mentioned earlier this method of calculating the Hora chart [Mapping all planets only in Cancer and Leo] is not used by me. According to my belief sage, Parashara himself instructed us to use what is known today as Pravritti-Dwaya hora but that also have some fundamental calculations problems. This will be explored in another article with an exposition of the new Hora chart which I have named Jaimini Hora.
As will be seen from this article, This Cancer-Leo Hora too gives snapshot results. One may think that Dasha is not working well in this Hora chart, but let me make a statement here that I prefer to use Rashi Dasha in this Hora Chart because I don’t want to expose my personal method of calculating Chara Dasha as of now, I have not used Rashi Dasha with this divisional chart.
In this Cancer-Leo hora what is most important is which sign between Cancer and Leo comes in Lagna of D2 chart and does that sign have any planet of own house or exaltation or debilitation. Here own house will indicate riches, exaltation will indicate huge riches and debilitation will indicate bankruptcy. The next checkpoint is to see in which house falls Mathematical Hora Lagna, Is that house being lagna, yes then riches are there if not then one needs to work hard to have money in his hands. One must also check in which sign mathematical Hora lagna was placed in D1 and his displacement in D2 which will indicate either person is born in a rich family or is from a humble background. Vara Hora lords indicate income of money in Dasha when a Vara Hora lord is ill-placed money or fortune may come but it will be only after debts, struggles and like things.
This way Cancer-Leo Hora can be interpreted. In the coming articles, I will expose Pravritti-Traya hora and Jaimini Hora Chakra, which is best suited to the time period of financial gains and losses and riches.

Himanshu, one Hora is one Hour, starts from Sunrise, first Hora lord is the lord of the same day, then Hora follows according to the increasing speed of planets.
I find your articles difficult to understand for 2 reasons.
One reason is because you use concepts only experienced astrologers would know. That maybe the audience you want, but that is also a very small market ….
The second reason is that your English is a bit non-standard.., and difficult to understand clearly … (maybe my mind is also not very flexible…)
However if you got your articles proofread (like all professional native speaker English writers do), the number of your readers would be much much more … and bring you more clients and followers …

You wrote 2.3 ghati makes one Hora. I think it should be 2.5 ghati makes one hora.
Again in calculation You write multiply by 2 in ghatyadi ishtkakalam and divide by 5.
I think it should be multiply by 5 एंड divide by 2.
