Reason for secrecy – One’s birth horoscope is his personal property, He is born with it and a competent astrologer can know almost everything from someone’s horoscope. Hence people protect and don’t share their horoscope freely. which in itself is a good practice as one well adept in astrology and Tantra can use your planetary details (Panchanga details) to even kill you. All the horoscopes that I have used in this research were either collected personally or from various books and other sources like the internet or own book of authors where they gave their birth charts but haven’t mentioned that it’s their birth detail but found often talking about their chart which meets with the chart give in one of their books. Because I don’t have permission to share their details I am refraining from making any such mistake. I hope readers will understand my dilemma and will forgive me for my secrecy. Horoscopes that are public or of those astrologers who have left for heavenly abode are shared. One can notice I have shared only 26 charts here but in reality, all these yogas were tested on 41 horoscopes of well-established astrologers and 24 horoscopes of budding astrologers. I have tested 21 Rules. Of them, 3 are found to be applicable in more than 80% of horoscopes which are used as Primary rules and 2 are found to work on more than 70% of horoscopes which are presented as Secondary rules. This is my own hard work and I can proudly say it is comprehensive but not absolute.

Yoga’s not used/mentioned – This comes under two subcategories – Yoga’s not used are those mentioned by eminent astrologers in their books and seminars which I am not reproducing due to it belonging to them and I have no right to share them. For example, Shri Suresh Chandra Mishra in his book quotes “Malefics in 1-2-5-9-12 houses makes one an astrologer, malefic sign only in the same houses makes one interested towards astrology” or rules of Shri Sanjay Rath which mentions Combination of Atmakaraka with a particular house or its lord makes one an astrologer or Combination of Sun with 2 particular houses or lords makes one an astrologer”

Yoga’s not mentioned are those given in classics for one being an astrologer but those Yoga’s haven’t passed my test of checking it on charts. Like a yoga named “Matsya Yoga” Given in Jataka Parijaat is the only Yoga given in classics which mentions one will become an astrologer (कालज्ञ – one who knows the time – Past, Present and Future) While testing it hasn’t even given me 25% of satisfactory results. (although I have used 3 variations for this – using Graha, Upagraha and Both Mixed) Another one is mentioned by Varahamihira in his Brihat Jataka where he mentions if the 10th lord from Lagna, Sun or Moon be in Navamsa of Jupiter or Mercury it makes one an astrologer. If even testing it with the conjunction of these respective lords with Mercury and Jupiter gave me only 70% accuracy which was close but I left it for now, After some time if I have been able to satisfy myself with testing of this technique I will share this.

Primary yoga’s found working

Conjunction of Mars and Venus (Sarawali)

गुणप्रधानो गणको द्यूतानृतरतः शठः । परदाररतो मान्यः शुक्रमंगलसंगमे ॥

In above Sanskrit sloka: गुणप्रधानो (Gunapradhano) = having many qualities, गणको (Ganako) = Astrologer, द्यूतानृतरतः (Dueetaanritah) = Indulge in gambling, शठः (Shatah) = Cunning, परदाररतो (Pardaarrato) = takes interest in others wife, मान्यः (Manyah) = Respected, शुक्रमंगलसंगमे (Shukra Mangal sangme) = Conjunction of Venus and Mars
Summing up the English translation of above sloka becomes:

Any person having the conjunction of Venus and Mars in his horoscope is of many qualities,Is an  astrologer, indulge in gambling, is cunning, Is interested in others wife and Is respected.

गणको (Ganako) = Basically means one indulged in calculations, because in earlier times modern software’s were not there and all calculations were to be done by hands, astrologers were engaged in heavy calculations. However this can also mean Mathematician, or anyone being engaged in calculations including astrologers. because for mathematicians texts use the word “गणितग्यो” Which means mathematician, This interpretation of astrologer seems correct.
Next question comes where – There are given several effects and all of them can or cannot happen at the same time. However here I want to share something which was taught to me by my Jyotish Mentor(whose name I can’t take but he is a master and known for his excellent jyotish skills) It is a small statement loaded with lot’s of power. “Navamsa is the horoscope of destiny, It is said that Rashi is tree and Navamsa is fruits, (I will add here Drekkana is seed) Hence Navamsa is what fruits we get in this life. Navamsa is a division of 9th house which shows past karmas/past life Karma’s that we carry and must face (No escape) Malefics in 9th house indicates one did very bad karmas due to that consequences he must suffer. Same is the case with Navamsa. Navamsa whatever it shows have to be faced doesn’t matter one likes it or not, things signified by navamsa can’t be remedied. It is a very important chart. Whatever is in Navamsa one is destined to get it. This is importance of Navamsa” His statement was “Yoga’s in Navamsa are destined to fructify – No escape” Hence this yoga need to be seen in Navamsa.
How to decide correct Navamsa lagan is a difficult process. But as Navamsa lagna also show one’s appearance along with physical built it becomes easy.

Yoga Variation – 1. Mars and Venus conjoin, 2. Mars aspects Venus or Venus aspect Mars, 3. Mars in Venusian sign or Venus in Martian sign, 4. Dispositor of any one of them aspects or sits with another planet (here notice it is not vice versa. Example Sri Sunil John. Pisces lagna, Venus in 12th house, Jupiter in 4th house and Mars in 10th house. Here we see Mars is in 10th house of Sagittarius whose depositor Jupiter aspects Venus using his 9th aspect, whereas Venus does not aspect Jupiter.

Dispositor is like mother impregnated with power of the planet, Dispositor carries planetary power and gives resources to planet so that they become able to fructify their effects/promises. Hence dispositor of Mars aspecting Venus gives Martian power to Venus making the yoga but suppose if Venus aspect Jupiter but Jupiter does not aspect Venus (In Case of Venus acchadan) then transference if power doesn’t happen. It is a case where Jupiter is impregnated with Martian power and also get’s influence of Venus. But is unable to give Martian power to Venus.

Acchadana Drishti – A separate article will be written on this, for now one must keep in mind that when Jupiter is in Own Rashi or exalted he also aspects 3-11 houses from his position and When Venus is in Own Rashi or exalted he aspects 8th house from his position.

Yoga based on my own logic

Classical text on Jyotish gives very few yogas for astrology, for this reason, one must use his own imagination to find techniques, and when imaginations come true on charts one can finalize it as a dictum (of his own)

While thinking on the topic an idea came to my mind, We all know Jyotish is eyes of Veda’s. This means eyes must have a connection with education houses for natives to read the subject related to eyes (light/Jyotish) In Vedic astrology 2nd and 12th houses along with Sun and Venus are given Lordship over eyes, light and sight respectively. I have left planets for now and taken House and House lords only.

Hence my formula says houses of education if connected with 2/12 houses (or both) or their lords then one will learn Jyotish.

Houses of education – 2nd house, 4th house, 5th house, 9th house is given importance while judging one’s education. Between them, 2nd house represents traditional education that comes from family (environment one is born in/lives) that is like trading for a person born in a trader’s family. 4th house being called Vidya Sthan deals with primary education (Up to senior secondary) which makes one’s base/one capable to have basic necessities of life (Kendra’s show basic necessities, Kona’s show expansion) 9th house deals with higher education and speciality one takes (In anything) any of these houses afflicted ends that part of education. Here 4th and 9th works in the hierarchy and when 4th is considerably damaged one would not get education from 9th house.

5th house shows our wisdom along with Lagna that which show one’s intellect. Education that comes from the 5th house is for one’s own betterment. 2nd house deals with family and handles education that comes from family. 4th house deals with mother and motherland and gives education which makes one learn one’s mother tongue completely (senior secondary education level) 9th house is Guru sthan and makes one Guru in any sector (Degree – Qualification) In between them 5th house deals with mantra (which is for one’s own betterment and it continues life to live) for example due to a mantra I did in a past life I will get a certain mantra in this life which will improve my karmas, that will be reflected in next life.  Hence it is not an education that deals with making money or a profession but it is a kind of Vidya that is based on one’s own choice, intellect and wisdom. None will force you for a mantra if you want you can opt for it. 5th house is the vidya we choose for ourselves. 4th house deals with Para Vidya which works on reading grounds and gives us livelihood like engineering etc whereas 5th house gives apara vidya which gives us effects beyond lifelike Mantra’s. Due to astrology being learning which continues life by life. The last aim of Jyotish is to make one realise the play of Paramatma and AdiShakti and liberate one. Hence it is signified by the 5th house and not the 4th house. There can be no formal education for Jyotish, No matter how hard we try. This is an endless subject.

Lord of 5th house must have connection with 2nd and/or 12th house or their lords.

Connection to lord can be using Mutual aspect, exchange, conjunction. Connection to houses can be through placement in the house, aspect over the house.

Two houses lorded by the same planet – is a big confusion for people to predict, I remember when someone said the connection between 5th and 8th house gives one Jyotish when I was a learner (still I am) I asked him what happens if the lord is same (Aquarius lagna) he said then search for other Yogas. But I was not satisfied, for an Aquarius lagna can’t there be a connection between 5-8 houses, 4-9 houses, 3-10 houses. Yes, it can be. When the lord of a sign is in his own Rashi or is exalted then he makes the connection between two houses. Hence if the 2nd house and 5th house or 5th house and 2nd house are owned by a single planet and if that planet is in its own Rashi or exalted then it must be taken as a connection between the two houses.

Yoga given by Sage Jaimini in his Swamsa Chapter 1.2

Sage Jaimini deals profession in the chapter on Swamsa [1.2] and Arudha [1.3] In the chapter of Swamsa he tells about one’s profession (Type of) and in Arudha he tells from where his income will come from (Person/Source) It is like suppose one will earn from intellectual sources than from where. He answers this in the chapter on Arudha. As Swamsa basically deals with the profession I have chosen this chapter to tackle this matter.

A careful study of Swamsa chapter leads us to a conclusion that the moon shows intellectual work that can include astrology, basically sage mentions Moon + Venus for intellectual work but as later on Venus is said to make one man of government (government job) I will take Moon for intellectual work and Venus aspected or conjoined with Moon for intellectual work. Saturn is said to give Famous Karma, Here I interpret famous karma as the Karma native’s family been engaged in doing since ages and not only show business (Movies) In the end he again mentions if Ketu be in 1-5-2 Houses from Swamsa one is mathematician, which we take for Jyotish. (for reasons given above in shloka of Saravali)

Swamsa and Karakamsa having Moon, Venus aspected by or with moon, Saturn or Ketu makes one an astrologer, Or their aspect must be on Swamsa and Karakamsa (Rashi Drishti) The same effects can be seen if Swamsa and Karakamsa is in sign of Saturn (Capricorn, Aquarius) or exaltation sign of Saturn – Libra.

Saturn is the king of tradition and traditional studies. Saturn is Kala and this is Kalagyana or Kaal Shastra. Saturn lords it as Saturn is time. One can see the major role of Saturn in astrology here. Every astrologer must have a good Saturn to grant him endurance, patience that is needed to test things and learn science like this. Saturn gives the tendency which is needed for astrologers. First, you read classics, it takes time and then patience to understand sage, then you test it on charts and see it fail, then you go back to the book and learn and read and re-read again, then again try it to find disappointment. with patience, this is only done and this is signified by Saturn. Hence Saturn is very important for an astrologer to learn this traditional science.

Swama and Karakamsa – Swa means self and Swamsa means Navamsa position of lord of Ascendant (Rashi) whereas Karaka means significator and self is signified by Atmkaraka. It’s not Atmakaraka which means soul significator but it is Atmkaraka which means self significator. Hence basically Swamsa means amsa of the planet which signifies self. It is signified using Lord of Lagna as well as Atmkaraka. Hence Swamsa is their position. Like a Bhava needs to be judged from Bhava, Bhavesha and Karaka in the same way houses in Jaimini are judged by the lord of the house, Arudha of house and Chara/Sthir Karaka. But to differentiate between them. I name position of lagnesh in Navamsa as Swamsa and position of Atmkaraka in navamsa as Karakamasa. To know my method of Chara Karaka reckoning please follow this link http://shubhamalock.com/jaimini/chara-karakas/

Secondary yoga’s found working (supportive)

Upagraha giving Jyotish (Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra)

Sage Parashara in his brihat parashara hora shastra exposed 5 Aprakash Graha and 5 Upagraha. (I will write a separate article on them including their calculations and usage) and then also told their effects according to houses. Careful study of effects makes one notice where sage has said person concerned will be Pandit, Which in other sense means learned and also astrologer.

Praanpada in 9th or 10th house, Dhooma in 4th house, Paat in 9th or 10th house, Paridhi in 8th or 10th house, Chaap in 7th or 11th house or Sikhi in 1st, 4th, 9th, 10th or 11th house is said by sage Parashara to make one pandit.

Thus if any of these yoga occurs in your chart then you can become an astrologer.

My own logic of using Nakshatra’s

Usage of Nakshatra – There is a branch of Astrology named Krishnamoorthy Paddhati which uses Planets lording Nakshatras. This is based on Vimshottari Dasa Lordship. Which assigns Ashwini, Magha and Moola to Ketu because if Moon is in these Nakshatra’s at one’s birth time then starting Vimshottari Dasa is of Ketu. But sage Parashara has exposed around 55 Dasa’s (Tallying different editions of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra) Now here comes a confusion Ashwini is ruled by Ketu in Vimshottari dasa but in Ashottari Dasa Ketu doesn’t feature in that case Ashwini is ruled by someone else. Like this, there are more than 10 Nakshatra dasa mentioned by Parashara himself. other sages increase the number then why use Vimshottari Lordship always universally. People may argue because human longevity is 120 years sage said this (Vimshottari Dasa) is universally applicable. In that case, he gave conditions for usage of 9 Nakshatra dasa with a statement that when these conditions apply to use this Dasa (Like when Lagna lord is in 7th or 7th lord is in Lagna use Dwisaptati Sama Dasa) what to do in that condition, Is one to use in that chart nakshatra Lordship for Dwisaptati Sama Dasa (this way the matter is far more confused). Further when we see yoga based on Nakshatras sage say particular planet in particular Nakshatra gives a particular yoga one see this gap very clearly. Hence this method of Nakshatra Lordship is not accepted by scholars, neither I do use nor advise it.

But there is a point free of doubt that is lord of Nakshatra are Vedic deities, their name is changed from time to time but their lordship over them remain intact. In my humble opinion deity of a Nakshatra is its real lord and the Nakshatra is of the nature of its lord. We will see its usage shortly. Before that let us see the table to Nakshatra – Deity and their meaning.

25Poorva BhadrapadaAjaikpadaAjaikpaad
26Uttara BhadrapadaAhirbudhanyaAhirbudhanya
27RevatiPooshaPoosha

Out of all these Nakshatra Kritika is lorded by Agni which gives us sight and the ability to view astrology being Eyes of Veda’s. Magha because its lords are Pitris who were our ancestors, Jyotish is a science dealing with karmas of people done in past and his ancestors Karma’s are also is to be suffered by him. Because it deals with the Past this Nakshatra has significance to Jyotish. Moola because in Taitariya Samhita its lord is Pitar(See Magha) and Prajapati lord of people” is a group of Hindu deities presiding over procreation and protection of life, and thereby a King of Kings”. Shravana is lorded by Vishnu who is the supreme godhead and everything in this life happens for his pastime only. Ardra because it’s lord Shiva is lord which supersedes times “Mahakaal”

Then I took Houses as Primary 1-2-5 and Secondary 4-9. 1st house shows one’s intellect, 2nd house show learnings from family, 5th house one’s wisdom and owns learning (which he chose) 4th house formal learning, 9th house Knowledge “Gyan” and one’s higher studies. 1-2-5 are taken as primary because 1st and 5th house show intellect as well as one’s capabilities and tendencies, whereas 2nd house indicates traditional learning which includes Jyotish. Secondary houses are based on the factor because as Jyotish can be taught in universities but none can be made an astrologer in universities. Hence they are taken as secondary.

If lord of Primary houses 1st, 2nd or 5th or lord of Secondary houses 4th and 9th are in Krittika, Magha, Aridra, Moola or Shravana Nakshatras. It makes one learn the science signified by it’s deity.

How to judge a chart for capabilities of being an astrologer – Each of these yoga’s contain 25% marks. Using all these 6 criteria one must have 100% marks. This means using the first 4 primary criteria you must have 50% points then add secondary two criteria to enhance it to 100%. If in any case after applying all 6 criteria one doesn’t get 100% marks. Then one will not be a successful astrologer. Here successful doesn’t mean you will not get clients “people can be easily fooled nowadays with easy promotions” or it is not that your predictions won’t be true “This can come from Saadhna – Very rare people are into this, for most predictions fails miserably or success per cent is very low” Successful also means one having complete knowledge of the subject and will find something new (Hidden things from classics) in his life.

Conclusion – This is a never-ending area of research, for example, several sages opine that an astrologer must tell truth. In that case, a person whose 2nd house or lord is free of Male Sura Grahas’s (Sun, Mars, Jupiter) association/aspect will tell a lot of lies. In that case, how can he be an astrologer in the real sense? His predictions will fail as his Vaani is spoiled by telling lies.

Then there are many yogas well researched and written by astrologers which I haven’t used one must also check them. One need not be disappointed if his chart isn’t applicable to Yoga’s for being an astrologer. Learning and Practising successfully a subject are two different matters.

As I have said earlier, This is comprehensive but not absolute.
